Empowering Skills for Progress
The deep-rooted connection of economic development and poverty alleviation with a skilled workforce is now an established fact. However, when it comes to Pakistan, the situation is extremely dismal. Pakistan, unfortunately, has fallen behind not only at the international level but also by regional standards.
The situation in Pakistan, particularly in Punjab, is highly concerning due to the inadequacy of governmental institutions to deliver the requisite outcomes. Recognizing the critical role of technical education and skills development as the backbone of economic growth and social progress, The Learner Educational & Technical Institute (LETI) was established. The primary objective of LETI is to address these challenges and promote technical education in Pakistan, with a particular focus on Punjab, by leveraging local, national, and international resources for sustainable development.
LETI is presently dedicated to advancing and providing demand-driven technical education and vocational training to the youth of Punjab. Its initiatives include:
Re-engineering and consolidating the existing technical education and vocational training systems under one management structure.
Regulating and developing standards for technical education and vocational training, including internationally-recognized curricula and certification systems.
Upgrading the skills and knowledge of teaching staff.
Enhancing teaching equipment to meet required standards.
Creating institutional linkages with industries.
Promoting public-private partnerships in the field.
Working towards making the LETI system self-sustainable.
In the continuous journey of national progress and prosperity, promoting technical education, vocational training, and certification aligned with current market needs is essential. The quantum of progress in scientific and technological pursuits is considered an index of a nation's self-sufficiency, prosperity, and supremacy in the world.
Acknowledging these critical realities, LETI understands that meaningful progress demands a strong foundation in quality technical trades to produce competent technical manpower.
Moreover, LETI is committed to establishing technical and vocational institutes in underprivileged areas of Punjab to produce skilled labor, addressing the fact that a significant percentage of Pakistani workers employed overseas are unskilled.
The importance of technical education is continuously growing as knowledge-based industries occupy the center stage of global development. Technical education, as a key driver of economic growth, is increasingly vital with the advent of new technologies.
Pakistan’s greatest asset is its human resource, which plays a decisive role in the country's progress and prosperity. Human resource development is central to enhancing productivity and achieving sustainable economic growth.
LETI assesses the competency and technical knowledge of individuals aspiring to become skilled workers through practical performance and written evaluations. The quality of training at LETI is attuned to the emerging needs of the job market. Over time, LETI has improved, expanded, and diversified technical and vocational training programs, making the current situation significantly better compared to earlier periods in our history.
